Remaining Optimistic for Record Show Attendance
Record registration for the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association convention could bode well for the ANA World’s Fair of Money later this summer.
We can only speculate on the attendance anticipated at the upcoming American Numismatic Association convention in Pittsburgh in late August, but there might be a coincidence barometer that suggests this is going to be an upbeat show.
The Royal Canadian Numismatic Association, a close sister organization to the ANA, has recently announced “a record number of collectors have already registered” for their mid-July event in Winnipeg. The Canadian show has never been as big as the U.S. convention; however, consider the following. The U.S. population is about 8.2 times larger than that of Canada.
The 2025 ANA event in Oklahoma City drew about 9,000 people. The National Money Show in Atlanta earlier this year drew more than 2,200. If attendance at past RCNA shows holds true, at least 750 can be anticipated to attend that event. This is the equivalent of 6,150 persons in the U.S. (at 750 times 8.2). Adjusted for population considerations, that puts their attendance about in the middle between the two ANA shows.
Yes, the market for Canadian coins in Canada is a different animal than is the interest in U.S. coins among U.S. collectors. I also understand this is fuzzy math, but looking ahead optimistically, this might suggest the ANA 2026 World’s Fair of Money could be in for a banner year attendance-wise. Official hotels for the ANA event are sold out. Yes, gold and silver prices have created some instability in pricing bullion-impacted coins, but overall collectible coin values remain strong. The upcoming August event is likely to reflect that market strength.
