Left an absentee bid at 5 day auction in Ohio on a 1901 S Quarter for $2500.00. It was in an old red 2×2 and looked almost like a shiny piece of alumiunum. They would not permit me to take it out of holder to autheticate it as old plastic was a bit diificult to see thru clearly. I got the quarter, apparently for opening bid of $100.00, had it cleaned and retoned after authentication and submitted for certification. It came back, as I thought, VG detail/cleaned/retoned. I took it to ANA convention in 2008, put it on display-two people looked at it casually. I listed it on eBay just after that and it sold within 20 minutes for $6200.00. I thought failure to allow me to authetiacte it was a big mistake as would have bid more-but it would, seemingly, have made very little difference. I was amazed by seeming indifference at ANA to a truly rare coin that I had priced at $4800.00. I thought more of it on leaving the show and increased price a bit-obviously.

More respect should be shown in regards to the 75th Anniversary of the end of World War 11. The Privy Marked Quarters should not be simply tossed into a giant bin of mixed circulation Quarters and randomly distributed so they are ruined by contact with so many other coins. A Special Mint Set should have been presented for these Coins.

Young numismatist, I am just another old guy (61). I started collecting coins when I was 6. I read with joy and sadness the wonderful article written by Radek Molchan. On the bottom of the second page in BOLD letters it reads ( I think the biggest failing in numismatics is that no one is asking the youth and no one is understanding what we are interested in. ) I agree. I suppose he was thankful that his list of accomplishments now includes being a contributor to one of the best, most read magazines in the business. But I am pretty sure that he was saddened when he looked at the May 12th issue pages 6-7 and saw his name misspelled at the end of the story. James Faulkerson Hillsboro, MO.
