Gearing Up for the World’s Fair of Money
The American Numismatic Association’s World’s Fair of Money returns with an expanded schedule of exhibits, educational programs, auctions, and activities for collectors of every experience level.
This year’s World’s Fair of Money, hosted by the American Numismatic Association (ANA), will be held from August 25-29 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. With numerous events such as Money Talks and award ceremonies, hundreds of dealer booths, and so much more, there is something for every collector.
The Mint Promenade will have 15 booths, including the United States Mint, T&S Coin, The Royal Mint, Art Mint, and Mint XXI.
Coin of the Year
For those interested in modern coins and who want to see more of what the world mints have been producing, the Coin of the Year awards, hosted by sister publication World Coin News, will be held on Thursday, August 27 at 11 AM in room 413. The ceremony is free and open to the public. The staff here at Numismatic News encourages everyone to stop by and see what leading experts in numismatics from around the world have deemed to be the best of the best in modern coinage. Be the first to know who has received the title of Coin of the Year!
This coin by CIT was nominated for the Coin of the Year Awards in the Best Crown category.
The awards program honors modern coin design and innovation, encouraging mints from around the world to push the limits of minting technology. Representatives from participating mints will be in attendance to see if their coins have come out on top.
From modern coinage to ancients, the World’s Fair of Money will also be hosting impressive displays of prominent collections for showgoers to view at their leisure.
The Tyrant Collection
It was announced in a press release in early July that a “never-before-exhibited portion of the rare historical coins in the unparalleled Tyrant Collection will be publicly displayed.” There will be over 200 coins displayed as part of the multi-million-dollar exhibit, including gold coins spanning the existence of the Byzantine Empire.
Ancient Athens Coins Exhibit
The Arcadia Collection, a collection of ancient Greek coins, will also be on display at the World’s Fair of Money. A private collection of ancient Greek classical-period coinage, the collection will be available for viewing at the ANA’s Museum Showcase area.
Money Talks and More
Throughout the week, showgoers will have the opportunity to attend Money Talks, presentations prepared by their fellow collectors and numismatists. From discussions on the myths and mysteries of U.S. numismatics after three centuries, to a deep dive into the coinage of ancient Thasos, it will be worth taking a break from the bourse to sit in with the experts on the coins you’re collecting.
Let’s not forget about the younger generations coming into the hobby. The World’s Fair of Money will have Ernie’s Treasure Treehouse, as well as a Young Collectors Corner.
