Wolka declares for ANA board

NN1017Wolka_color.jpgWendell Wolka is the first person to formally declare his candidacy for a seat on the American Numismatic Association board of governors in next year?s election to choose seven governors and a president and vice president.

He said Sept. 28 that he believed his business experience and organizational experience will be valuable in moving the ANA forward. He is active in the Central States Numismatic Society, the Society of Paper Money Collectors, the International Bank Note Society and the Ohio State Numismatic Association.

His past educational involvement with the ANA and its activities includes the chairmanship of the Exhibits Committee, judging and both teaching and developing programs for the annual Summer Seminar.

Wolka said he believes the ANA should continue to focus primarily on education and outreach as the primary ways of providing value to members and growth for the association.

His other key points are:

  • The ANA needs to become and remain fiscally responsible, with a balanced annual budget and a fully restored endowment fund considered standard practice.
  • Information regarding board meetings and actions, including agendas, vote details, reports and financial and budgetary data should be made available on the ANA Web site as soon as it is available.
  • Board meetings should be open, unless dealing with issues such as personnel situations or arbitration cases that normally are dealt with during executive sessions. Results of executive sessions, including vote details, should be published on the ANA Web site.

Wolka says for every issue he will ask himself, ?Is the result of my vote in the best interests of the ANA?s individual and club members?? and ?Is the result of my vote in the best interests of the Association??

?I will not bring any preconceived hidden agendas with me to the table if I am fortunate enough to be elected to the ANA board of governors,? he said.
