Whitman Baltimore Spring Expo Canceled, Stack’s Official Auction Relocated

In a March 12 online statement, Whitman Coins & Collectibles Expo officials announced that its spring Baltimore show has been cancelled. The statement reads:

On Thursday, March 12, under a state of emergency declared by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, the Baltimore Convention Center suspended operations and activities in response to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. The Whitman Coin & Collectibles Expo, previously scheduled for March 19-21 at the Convention Center, will be closed for all bourse activities including dealer buying and selling, educational programs, and club meetings. The auction of Stack’s Bowers Galleries, the official auction company of the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Expo, will be held on the previously announced dates.

Stack’s Bowers Galleries will relocate the associated auction from the Baltimore Convention Center to a facility near its California home office. The auction schedule published in the catalogs and on the SBG website will be the same, with only the physical location of the event changing, according to the firm.

“We have been closely monitoring the impact of the Covid-19 virus and the resulting cancellation of the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Expo, said Brian Kendrella, president of Stack’s Bowers. “After careful consideration, we have made the strategic decision to continue to hold our auction, but relocate it to California.”

Lot viewing for the auction has taken place over the past several weeks in California and New York, and the firm is offering additional lot viewing opportunities, by appointment, at its California offices starting March 17.

Interested bidders who are unable to attend the live auction in California are asked to call (800) 458-4646 or email info@stacksbowers.com to request phone descriptions from the firm’s specialists, to place absentee bids or to arrange bidding by phone. Live bidding will be available through the company’s website at www.StacksBowers.com and through its iOS and Android apps.
