Set honors Hawaiian R.R.

This October, Michael Mochizuki released a four-cent series of elongated coins titled “Historic Railroads of Hawaii Elongated Penny Series II.”

This set features two rail cars from the Oahu Railwy & Land Company: the ‘Ewa Sugar Mill and the old Hale’iwa Hotel.

United States tokens prove big things do come in small packages!

The Oahu Railway Locomotive No. 12 from 1912 is now a static display at the Hawaiian Railway Society ‘Ewa Museum. Its restoration is nearing completion, with new paint and lettering currently in progress.

The Oahu Railway Dillingham Parlor Car No. 64 from 1901 was fully restored between 1986 and 1994. It is currently in service on the second Sunday of each month on Oahu.

The ‘Ewa Sugar Mill building from the ‘Ewa Plantation Company, built in 1902, is featured on the third cent and the design includes the railway tracks in front of the building.

The old Hale’iwa Hotel, which survived from 1899 until 1952, was one of the first tourist destinations in the early days of modern Hawaiian history.

These copper-cent sets are available for $8 per set including postage to U.S. addresses. Single designs cost $2.50 each, including postage.
