Paper money dealer Sergio Sánchez will exhibit one of only two known 1891 $1,000 Silver Certificates Oct. 13-16 at the Professional Currency Dealers Association Show at the St. Charles Convention Center in St. Charles, Mo., just outside of St. Louis.

The note is the only one in private hands.

This is the 25th anniversary year for PCDA and Sánchez says he wants to help PCDA make this a memorable event by exhibiting the $1,000 note in the public for the first time.

Many hobbyists call it “The Marcy Note.” Along with two other collectible notes, it makes up  the triple crown of U.S. currency, Sánchez says.

The other two rarities are the 1869 $500 and $1,000 Legal Tender Notes, also known as “Rainbow Notes.” All three are unique outside the U.S. government collections and are multi-million dollar rarities.

Marcy was governor of New York, U.S. senator, Secretary of War under President James K. Polk, and Secretary of State under President Franklin Pierce.

This could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the $1,000 Silver Certificate. It was part of the Amon Carter Jr. collection that was sold by his estate to an anonymous private collector nearly 30 years ago.

Every hour there will be a drawing to win a Morgan silver dollar from a bag of 1,000 silver dollars exhibited next to the $1,000 Silver Certificate. The grand prize drawing will be held at the closing of the event on Saturday for a small-size $500 Federal Reserve Note.

Thanks are extended to Spectrum Currency for its donation of the $500 Federal Reserve Note and SilverTowne for its generosity in making arrangements to have the bag of silver Dollars at the event.

Spink Smythe made a $500 cash donation to help with the purchase of the silver dollars being raffled during the show. The raffle will be limited to collectors only in thanks to those who come to the show.
