Proof coins top Heritage sale

Proof coins highlighted nearly $20 million in coin and paper currency sales results by Heritage Auctions at the Long Beach show in early September.

A gem cameo proof 1853 quarter with arrows and rays, formerly from the Eliasberg collection, brought $94,000, including the buyer’s fee.

An 1854 proof gold $10 eagle, a coin that was unconfirmed to exist until very recently, and which may very well be unique and whose provenance remains unknown, Heritage says is an unmistakable proof despite a light amount of wear consistent with a grade of Proof-55, It sold for $88,125.
