Whether collectors will be able to buy proof gold and silver American Eagle coins in 2010 may yet be in doubt, but the platinum proof one-ounce coin is slated to go on sale on the U.S. Mint website Aug. 12 at noon Eastern Daylight Time.

No price has been set yet by the U.S. Mint as this issue went to press, but with platinum priced at $1,541 an ounce, it will not be inexpensive with a roughly 30 percent mark-up from there.

This year’s issue is the second one in the Preamble Series of the Constitution. It is called “Establish Justice.”

Last year’s theme was to “Form a More Perfect Union.”

The reverse design changes annually on the proof platinum coins and this year’s issue is part of a six-year series that began in 2009.

The obverse features a head of the Statue of Liberty and it does not change from year to year.

Visit the Mint’s website at www.usmint.com for more information. Orders will be accepted online and by telephone at (800) USA-MINT when the sales period begins.
