PCDA convention approaches

The Professional Currency Dealers Association sponsored National and World Paper Money Convention will be held for the 23rd time Oct. 16-18 at a new site, the St. Charles Convention Center in St. Charles, Mo. The NWPMC will be held over the same dates as the Silver Dollar Convention, a coin oriented event that will be in a separate hall of the convention center.

“We’ve received a lot of positive feedback from both dealers and collectors about the move to St. Charles,” said General Chairman Ron Horstman, a past president of the Society of Paper Money Collectors. “When the National and World Paper Money Convention started almost a quarter century ago we were at the Cervantes Convention Center in downtown St. Louis and were associated with the Silver Dollar Convention there. Being able to re-affiliate with this established independent numismatic event will be a real plus for both.
“Many collectors have an interest in both coins and paper money. When one considers the size of the two independent bourse areas together, St. Charles will now be hosting what will be a must-attend for members of the collecting fraternity.”

Kevin Foley, bourse chairman, agrees.

“The St. Charles Convention Center is a real state of the art facility,” Foley said. “We’ll once again have a bourse area consisting of the major dealers who specialize in collectible paper money, as well as a world class auction by PCDA member Lyn Knight.”

NWPMC activities will get under way on Oct. 16, when the Professional Preview will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. Collectors and dealers without booths will be able to have early access to the bourse area in advance of the general public for a $50 registration fee. Regular public hours will be from noon to 6 p.m. on Oct. 16 and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 17-18. There will be no Sunday bourse hours. Admission is free during regular public hours.

Lyn Knight will hold a two session auction, with sessions at 6 p.m. on Oct. 16-17. Auction lot viewing begins at 9 a.m. on Oct. 15 in Ballroom D1.

“Lyn always gives the NWPMC a well rounded sale with something for virtually any collecting budget that is a major draw at our event,” said Horstman.

The convention will feature an education program by another SMPC past president, Frank Clark, who will be the featured speaker at a 9 a.m. Oct. 18 meeting of the Society of Paper Money Collectors. His topic will be Dallas National Bank Notes.

Dealers interested in bourse space at the NWPMC should contact Foley at (414) 421-3484. For more convention details, visit www.rarecurrency.net/general_information.html.
