New So-Called Dollar book available

‘So-Called Dollars from the Pacific Coast Expositions’ by Jeff Shevlin and William D. Hyder

So-Called Dollar dealer Jeff Shevlin and William D. Hyder have announced the release of their new book, So-Called Dollars from the Pacific Coast Expositions.

The illustrated reference is the second in a series of books Shevlin plans to publish to redefine and expand the field of collecting So-Called Dollars. It features a preface by Q. David Bowers.

The authors share the stories of and history behind the eight major expositions that were held on the Pacific Coast: the 1894 California Midwinter Exposition, the 1905 Lewis and Clark Exposition, the 1909 Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition, the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition, the 1915-16 Panama–California Exposition, the 1935-36 California Pacific International Exposition, the 1939-40 Golden Gate International Exposition, and the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair.

The heart of the book is an in-depth analysis of all the So-Called Dollars associated with those great expositions. These historical U.S. medals commemorate a person, place, or event in U.S. history and are 33mm to 45mm in size.

An interior spread of the new book features material from the 1905 Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition.

Dozens of previously unknown medals and varieties are identified that will help collectors interested in this fascinating series of historical medals.

A regular edition, hardbound with more than 300 full color pages, is priced at $59.95. The deluxe edition, leather bound with a brass commemorative medal encased in the cover and priced at $149.95, is limited to 100 copies.

Also available is a pocket price guide format for $19.95. It features photos, values in five grades, rarity information, and compositions for all of the so-called dollars cataloged in the Pacific Coast book. This is the first edition of an annual price guide that will be expanded each year until all so-called dollars are included.

Shipping is $4.50 per book. To order, contact Jeff Shevlin, the So-Called Guy, 1894 E. Willian St., Suite 4-240, Carson City, NV 89701.
