Mint Stats: Gold bullion coin sales in tight race

GoldEagleSalesSales of American Eagle bullion coins have begun. Demand seems strong. Numbers on these pages reflect final December 2013 sales as the Mint has not yet updated its statistics pages.

What the Mint did reveal is that gold coin demand fell a little bit from last year on the first day of 2014, which was Jan. 2. The Mint said it sold 54,000 ounces. This was comprised of 16,500 gold Buffaloes plus 37,500 ounces of American Eagle coins of all four weights combined. In 2013, the first day of sales totaled 58,000 ounces.

Orders for silver American Eagle bullion coins that have not yet been delivered total almost 4 million pieces, which is already more than half of the 7,498,000 sold in all of January 2013.

Girl Scout final numbers are below. For the first time, an organization so honored will not get any surcharges because sales were insufficient to cover the Mint’s production costs.
