Mint Statistics: American Legion Coin Sales Soft

I had the opportunity this week to attend an orientation meeting for the Badger Boys State Program, which is hosted by the American Legion. Afterwards, I chatted briefly with a few of the members who were there and asked for their thoughts on the new 100th Anniversary commemorative coins. I was surprised that none had heard of them. Is this lack of awareness contributing to the slower than expected initial sales of these coins? With maximum mintages the same as the Apollo 11 coins, it’s going to take a long time to reach sellout status at the current pace.

Last week’s report on the American Memorial Park quarter bags and rolls and five ounce coin was positive. Since then, the 100-coin bags increased by about 100, while the two-roll sets gained 500.

The 2019 clad proof set rebounded after a decline of over 1,100 last week and posted an increase of 6,574. 2019-W proof silver Eagles increased by 1,517. The 2019 Explore and Discover Set increased from 13,822 to 16,898. The Apollo 11 .999 silver dollar increased 1,386. A thousand more gold bullion Buffalos were reported this week as well. New to this week’s report is the 2019 gold one-ounce Buffalo proof coming in at 5,160.
