Medal marks El Paso coin show

The 55th Annual El Paso Coin Show goes down in the books as a great hit. The Feb. 16-18 event attracted over 650 first-time attendees according to show chairman Jason Elwell.

It was hosted by The International Coin Club of El Paso, Inc.

President John Grost was pleased with the results as were the many dealers in attendance.

Club members did exhibits to show what kinds of numismatics they were interested in. There were numerous numismatic prizes raffled to raise funds.

Those who desire streetcar themed medals have the opportunity of ordering them from the International Coin Club of El Paso.

A medal celebrating the “Return of the Streetcar” was sold and also is available by mail order.

Old streetcars from the 1940s are being restored and brought back into service in dowtown El Paso.

Numbered two-medal sets consisting of one antique bronze medal and one polished bronze in capsules and black velvet box with certificate of authenticity are $32.50. This price covers priority mail shipping.

Former American Numismatic Association President Walt Ostromecki promoted youth involvement in the hobby at the El Paso show.

A single antique bronze medal is $11. The price includes first class postage.

There was a special guest and memorabilia from the El Paso Railroad and Transportation Museum at the show.

Former American Numismatic Association President Walt Ostromecki ran a youth and family treasure hunt to teach kids about numismatics.

On Saturday there was a coin auction for children. They would bid on numismatic prizes with world paper money that the club had donated.

Dealers said this was a better show than in times past.

The 56th El Paso Coin show will be hosted Feb. 15,16,17, 2019.
