MdP Strikes Notre-Dame Rebuild Coins

Within days of a fire destroying a large part of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, Monnaie de Paris announced the sale of two gold and one silver proof euros whose sale will contribute to the reconstruction fund of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The 2019-dated coins have the same designs as those produced by MdP in 2013 to celebrate the 850th anniversary of this Gothic Cathedral. Both sides of the coin depict the gargoyles, towers and center of the rose window that are among the building’s most recognizable features. The legend “15/04/2019 Reconstruction / Notre-Dame de Paris” has been added to the obverse. The reverse carries the UNESCO logo.

The silver proof €10 has been struck on 37.00 mm, 22.20 g .900 fine silver flan and has a mintage of 5,000. For each coin sold €20 goes to the reconstruction fund.

The two .999 fine gold proofs consist of a 22.00 mm, 7.780 g (1/4 oz) €50 and a 37.00 mm, 31.104 g (1 oz) €250. Mintages are 500 and 250. From each sale €100 and €300, respectively, are contributed the reconstruction fund.
