MCCA gets personal tour

Members, family and friends of the Metropolitan Coin Club of Atlanta, Ga., were given a personal tour of the ?Old Money, New Money: The Rise of Southern Capitalism? exhibit at the Altanta History Center on Dec. 30. 2006.

NN0116MCCA.jpgThe collection is owned by Frank O. Walsh and contains rare documents and artifacts of historic southern business spanning 150 from colonial America to the Great Depression. The collection includes more than 7,000 individual documents from the Augusta planters checkbook to slave bills of sale.

The exhibit shows how capital was raised and what it looked like though specie and paper money, stocks, bonds, checks and loans. Items such as 50 cent fractional notes and two dollar greenbacks printed during the Civil War demonstrate both local and national attempts to standardize currency.

The exhibit, presented by Merrill Lynch, will be on display through March, 18, 2006, at the Atlanta History Center.
