Ganz receives Ambassador Award

NN0905ganzamb_color.jpgA Numismatic Ambassador Award was given Aug. 17 to David L. Ganz, outgoing president of the Token and Medal Society, at that organization?s banquet in Denver.

Ganz, the author of the ?Under the Glass? column, was cited by Numismatic News Editor David C. Harper for his long involvement in organized numismatics, dating back to joining the American Numismatic Association in 1967 and participating in its Young Numismatists efforts.

Ganz did so well that by 1974, he was appointed to the U.S. Assay Commission, a now-defunct body that met annually at the time to attest to the accurate weights and measures of U.S. coinage.

As a lawyer, he served as legal counsel to the Professional Numismatists Guild and legislative counsel to the ANA. He was elected to the ANA board of governors in 1985 and ended his 10 years on the board as its 48th president, 1993-1995.

NN0905ganztams_color.jpgGanz is a prolific writer. He contributed to Numismatic News 1969-1976. His column returned permanently to Numismatic News in 1995 after a long absence. He is a speaker at educational forums, has multiple books to his credit and served on the Citizens Commemorative Coin Advisory Committee.

The Numismatic Ambassador Award was created by Numismatic News in 1974 to honor longstanding service to organized numismatics.
