Ellis in CONECA hall of fame

Mike Ellis, senior grader and variety specialist for Dominion Grading Service, has been selected as the 2009 recipient of the Combined Organizations of Numismatic Error Collectors of America’s Hall of Fame Award, DGS announced June 4.

Ellis came to DGS in October 2008, bringing 20 years of experience as a professional numismatist and numismatic educator. A coin collector since 1968, he has served 12 years as a board member and officer of CONECA, including four terms as president of the organization.

He has been an instructor for the American Numismatic Association’s Summer Seminars since 1996, has given several Numismatic Theatre presentations at ANA anniversary conventions and made many educational appearances at other shows and club meetings across the country.

Ellis is also an accomplished numismatic writer, having written a column for Numismatic News, served as editor of Errorscope and Cherrypickers’ News, and edited Cherrypickers’ Guide to Rare Die Varieties, 4th Edition, Volume I, for which he received a Numismatic Literary Guild Award.

In addition, Ellis has written numerous articles for several numismatic publications, contributed to dozens of numismatic publications and either wrote or contributed to many numismatic auction catalogs.

He has been awarded ANA’s Glenn Smedley Award and CONECA’s highest honor, the Dr. Lyndon King Award.
Ellis is a candidate for ANA governor in the 2009 election.
