Two famous early American coins – a 1776 Continental currency dollar struck in pewter and graded MS-65 by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, and a 1792 half disme graded NGC MS-63 – will be the featured exhibits at the Santa Clara Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo set for April 15-17 in the Santa Clara, Calif., Convention Center.

“The coins have a combined value of $750,000, and will be displayed courtesy of Robert Higgins of Certified Assets Management, Inc. in Wilmington, Del.,” said Ronald J. Gillio, expo general chairman.

“Benjamin Franklin is credited with the design concept of the Continental dollars and they were struck just a few weeks after the Declaration of Independence was signed,” explained Gillio. “The 1792 half disme was authorized by President George Washington as the first official coin produced by the United States.”
