AnnounceMints: Best of the Mint – 1907 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle

The U.S. Mint closes its Best of the Mint series with the iconic 1907 Saint-Gaudens High Relief design.

Celebrating the Semiquincentennial, the U.S. Mint has been releasing the “Best of the Mint” series. Starting with a curated list of 21 historic coins spanning the Nation’s history, and with input from the public and expert recommendations, five were selected. The Best of the Mint series issues 24-karat reissued gold coins alongside silver medals with a modern design inspired by their historical counterpart.

This last edition of the series is the 1907 Saint-Gaudens High Relief $20 Gold Coin and Silver Companion Medal. The gold coin is the classic Saint-Gaudens design collectors know and love, with the included Liberty Bell privy mark and the inscription “MCMVII”.

The silver companion medal reimagines elements of the historic coin. A new view of Saint-Gaudens’ Liberty carrying a torch and olive branch is seen on the obverse. On the reverse, an eagle in flight, with the American flag making up its wings.

The mintage limit is set at only 15,000, so collectors will want to act quickly when this set is released on September 24.
