Five-coin Eagle set for 25th anniversary

Although the U.S. Mint will not put the “S” mintmark on 1 ounce 2011 silver American Eagle bullion coins struck in San Francisco, the Western mint’s iconic letter will still appear on a silver Eagle this year. Mint Stats: Proof Eagles sales surge higher

Coin collectors were in a buying mood this week for proof Eagles. Sales of the 2011 silver proof American Eagle vaulted higher by 133,420 while the one-ounce gold proof American Eagle jumped by 4,514. Buyers also seemed to have developed a new fondness for the 9/11 medals. The West Point version saw sales of 9,830 this week, pushing the cumulative total up by almost 24 percent to 51,289. ‘S’ecret Eagles

One ounce 2011 American Eagle silver bullion coins minted at the San Francisco Mint went on sale to the U.S. Mint’s Authorized Purchasers for the first time on May 31, but according to the U.S. Mint there should be no distinguishable difference between these coins and those manufactured at West Point.
