I don’t use folding money as much as I used to.. I mainly use plastic, but yes, I always check for star notes, and notes with mis-matched serial numbers, “funny” numbers like “radar” numbers, missing printing, defective priting and so on.. once, at a Post Office, a clerk who is no longer there saved “odd” currency for me.. years ago, he showed me a $5.00 bill which had a serial number something like “777111111” or however many numbers are in a common $5.00 bill serial number.. I bought it from him with a normal $5.00 bill, took the note he had saved for me and listed it on eBay and got something like $50.00 or $60.00 for it.. I described it as “the ultimate 7-11” serial number.. maybe someone who works at a 7-11 won it.. no idea.. I should’ve asked, but I didn’t.. oh, and it was not a CU note.. it was well-circulated..
