The James Buchanan First Spouse coins appear here for the first time with sales already greater than those of the Jane Pierce coins if you combine the proof and uncirculated totals. Entering the listing for the first time this week are sale figures for the 14-coin 2010 United States Mint Silver Proof Set, which went on sale Aug. 26 at $56.95 per set. The platinum proof one-ounce American Eagle coin sold out as expected by the Aug. 22 Mint report date. All 10,000 were snapped up by collectors in just over a week. Proof platinum American Eagles hit the boards at 8,268. These numbers were put up by the Aug. 15 report date after having gone on sale Aug. 12. At that rate, the coin will hit the 10,000 maximum before you can read this. While we don’t have sales numbers yet, we will see how quickly the U.S. Mint will be able to sell out the 10,000 proof platinum Eagles for 2010. Sales of the fractional gold American Eagle coins fell dramatically from June to July and there was no action at all in the first couple of days of August. The annual proof set went on sale and the first figures show that it continues to be more popular than the uncirculated coin set. Roughly 50 percent more sets were sold in the first few days at 296,379 as compared to the 200,764 for the uncs. The 2010 uncirculated coin set hits the page with sales of just over 200,000 as the 2009 set leaves with sales of just under 775,000. The last of the 2009 Lincoln rolls have left the page to make room for the cumulative totals of the fractional gold American Eagles sold so far this year. Say nice things about the Disabled Veterans dollar and what happens? It goes to sleep the following week. |
