Proof platinum American Eagles hit the boards at 8,268. These numbers were put up by the Aug. 15 report date after having gone on sale Aug. 12. At that rate, the coin will hit the 10,000 maximum before you can read this.

Sales of the fractional gold American Eagle coins fell dramatically from June to July and there was no action at all in the first couple of days of August.

The annual proof set went on sale and the first figures show that it continues to be more popular than the uncirculated coin set. Roughly 50 percent more sets were sold in the first few days at 296,379 as compared to the 200,764 for the uncs.
