A United States Medal of Honor was recently sold by German orders and medals dealer Detlev Niemann on his web site auction for 506.33. What is really sad about this is that as US Citizens, you and I can not legally buy this historic piece of our heritage and bring it back home to where it belongs even if all we wanted to do is donate it to the Smithsonian, our national museum. While the law which prohibits us from buying this medal is intended to protect the honor of the medal of honor, it actually condemned this medal to foreign exile.
