Standard Catalog of World Paper Money, Modern Issues, 14th edition Now Available !
Posted by george
I have just received my copies from the printer of the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money, Modern Issues, 14th edition. So your distributor should have a stock at an upcoming show, or you can order on-line at www.krausebooks.com.
It is 1085 pages plus an advertising section. An indexed DVD of the book is included in a bound-in holder onto the inside back cover (you can enlarge the pages up to 300% on a computer screen). A first for the World Paper Money book series.
It has a retail price of $55.00 USD.
For those who have been unhappy with the photo quality in the past few editions, you should notice a great improvement as this 14th edition has been completely digitally producted, thus ending the combination use of the old paste-up/velox technology combined with scaned images which were the cause of fuzzy images in the recent past.
For those who have been confused why we have listed North and South Korea under Korea, North and Korea, South, we have now listed those counties under N and S respectively. Next year we will list Northern Ireland under N, and also atempt to split Samoa and Western Samoa successfully. If you have any concerns where something is, please consult either the country or issuer index in the front of the book.
The note descriptions - colors, types, watermark and printer information has been expanded to full descriptions in all records. A help for identification, and one that will become necessary in the on-line version soon to appear on http://www.numismaster.com/
I have just been informed that the DVD will be available seperately, at a list price of about $45.00.
As always I welcome helpful suggestions for improvements.

Peoples Republic of China revision for Standard Catalog of World Coins and Numismaster
Posted by george
We have revised the catalog numbers for the Peoples Republic of China.
As users know, for the past 35 editions, the Standard Catalog of World Coins has continued to use "Y" prefexes to the catalog listings.
As many collectors know, we have been lacking listings too.
With a new reference in hand, and additional information we have been able to flush out the listings that were lacking, and have renumbered the Peoples Republic portion to "KM" prefex numbers.
Will will make available very soon, on NumisMaster, a viewable or downloadable cross-reference listing showing old "Y" and the current "KM" numbers. The cross refrence chart will be complete, showing the listings which have previously been lacking, with the number that will be assigned in the data base.
Then, as the year progresses we will be adding the full descriptions into Numismaster, and they will be ready for the 37th edition of the Standard Catalog of World Coins.

Unusual World Coins Catalog now available in 5th edition
Posted by george
Unusual World Coins 5th edition now available !
Colin Bruce, Tom Michael and I were busy this summer collecting data, processing images, and actually buying some of this stuff for the new edition of Unusual World Coins. The the dollar and quarter prototypes of Daniel Carr are included, but the Ron Paul issues of the liberty dollar series have been added to the data base since the book went to the printer, so they are not in the book, but are available in the on-line database.
A bunch of new places have been listed, descriptions expanded, and prices updated based on recent auction and price list appearances.
The catalog is a robust 586 pages of listings in the traditional 3 column format, with 36 pages of additional introduction material and ads.
Retail price is $45.00 USD. However, discounts are available from the usual suspects.
The UWC catalog listings are an option on the electronic NumisMaster database, at
www.numismaster.com
and new listings will appear on that platform continually.

Gold up, Gold Rush! just published by KP
Posted by george
Krause Publications releases Gold Rush! book, edited by Arlyn Sieber with Mitchell Battino as contributing editor.
This 6x9 format, full color 272 page book takes the commonly traded modern gold value listings from the Standard Catalog of World Coins Catalogs (19th thru 20th Centuries) and packages them with selected illustrations into a concise guide for the non-collector bitten and smitten by the gold rise in the past two years.
United States, Great Britain, France, German, Austrian, Canadian, Italian issues of circulating types, as well as certain world commemoratives are featured. A handy Gold Bullion value chart is included to assist in the varitation between the price of Gold determined at publication and the current ever-changing (and of late rising) gold bullion price.
List price is 22.99 and it is number Z1025 in the Krause Books catalog, available directly from the publisher, or your favorite book dealer.

Standard Catalog of U.S. Paper Money, 26th Edition available soon!
Posted by george
The 26th Edition of the Standard Catalog of U.S. Paper Money will be available soon, and recognition for the 25th edition!
Orders are now being accepted for the 26th edition of the Standard Catalog of United States Paper Money. We have received a very few “checking copies” from the printer – basically to approve and accept the order as bound, and the shipment will soon be received at our distribution center.
This new edition is our second year with the 6x9 format and nearly full color illustrations. I continue to be the editor, and this year, we have added William Brandimore as the market analyst. In addition to a bunch of new release information, older listings long a part of the book now return to the product - namely the chapters on Civil War Envelopes, Philippines Currency under US Administration, Fractional Currency Specimens, and error notes. These items were deleted from the 25th edition due to a set pre-determined page count limit. It also gave us an extra year to get nice quality color illustrations of these sections. Taking that in mind, we budgeted for 100 more pages than the 25th edition and thus at the retail price of $26.99 the book continues to be a bargain reference for the US bank note collector.
That all said and done, The Numismatic Literary Guild presented me with an Extraordinary Merit Award for the work on the 25th edition of the Standard Catalog of United States Paper Money. It is always nice to receive recognition from the community for a job well done. It was the only award presented to the KP Numismatic Book department. In the photo, David Alexander is presenting me with the plaque award. David Kranz, editor of Bank Note Reporter, took the photo.

Standard Catalog of World Coins goes DVD, a guest blogger
Posted by george
DVD Puts 5 1/2 Inches of Catalog in 1/2 Inch Case
George is duplicating Tom Michael's blog from last Friday. Great news.
At theANA this year Krause Publications released a special three volume set of the 19th, 20th and 21st Century volumes of the Standard Catalog of World Coins as a three disc DVD set. This caused a good deal of excitement, as one might have expected.
There have been plenty of people asking for the Standard Catalog on Disc over the years, but it was some recent developments regarding database development which finally led us to be able to provide this long awaited product.
The set features the most recent editions of the three catalogs, each of which was produced within the past eight months or less. The book covers can be seen on the right front of the DVD case shown here. Each disc presents one volume in it's original page format, so it's just like scanning the pages of the catalog, but without the girth of a heavy book in your lap or on your desk.
Total page count is about 3,760 and total images are roughly 82,750. You can enlarge the images pretty well also, as these are direct from our files, without any second generation degrading. Navigation works through Adobe Acrobat, which is the software which reads the discs. You can do country name or key word searches to find the sections you seek.
The cover prices on the three catalogs totals to $150, but the cost of this three disc DVD set is only $100. At the KP booth at the ANA show last week this new disc set was a featured item, being sold for the special show discount price of $80. At that price I saw many smiling faces, so when I got back here to Iola, I started thinking that maybe I could get fellow Blogger and editorial director Debbie Bradley to extend this discount to my readers for a while. I do so like smiling faces! Anyway, just this afternoon she agreed to allow me to offer that same show special price of $80 to all my Blog readers from now until October 1st.
So if you would like a set of Standard Catalogs on DVD, just email me at tom.michael@fwpubs.com and ask for my special ANA show - Blog extension discount of $80 for the three disc set. You'll have to pay shipping, which is $3.95, so the total will be $83.95, but still, what a deal! Consider it my little way of saying "Thank's" for stopping by to read my postings.

Modern World Gold Coins, 1801-present released!
Posted by george
Yes, a new title from the numismatic book division at Krause Publications.
Modern World Gold Coins, 1801-present, includes the most actively traded area in the World Gold Coin market, "modern" coins! The earier to find issues of sovereigns, francs, marks and roubles are included, as are the mid-20th century Franklin Mint commemoratives, and late 20th century bullion issues.
Gold, platinumn and palladium are all included. Soft cover, $65.00, 772 pages, with prices updated based on gold market value of $650-670 per ounce! So nearly every price has been reviewed or updated since the 5th edition of the Standard Catalog of World Gold Coins.
The product features sharper illustrations and expanded descriptions. The softcover book makes it a lighter-weight and easy-use item for travel.

Coins and Currency of the Mid-East
Posted by george
For those hovering on the KP numismatic book radar, a title may have excaped you two years ago. It is Coins and Currency of the Mid-East.
Co-authored by myself and Tom Michael, it holds several firsts for the KP numismatic stabe. It is the first 6x9 format coin and currency combination product done in full color. It was a first exposure to have a targeted audience outside the traditional hobby - returning servicemen. It was a first to cross fields and incude other stuff - like challenge coins, pogs, posters, propaganda leafelets. It was the first to take advantage of full-color military photographs of troops in the field. Mostly from the current lingering multi-national war in Iraq, Iraqi Freedom.
It covers the US actions in the Mid-East over the past 25 years and is an identification guide for what servicemen were returning with stuff.![153_724_large[1].jpg](http://www.numismaticnews.net/currency/content/binary/153_724_large[1].jpg)
The official KP catalog listing includes: In addition to collectible commerce from more than 20 countries, this book contains other memorabilia and collectibles that represent a rarely seen side of Middle East conflicts. More than 400 color photos and illustrations help to identify coins and currency, showcase military medals, propaganda leaflets, mementos and depict the lives of soldiers serving in the Middle East. Whether soldier, collector, dealer, historian or a family member looking for details about new heirlooms, this is the absolute authority on Middle Eastern currency and military memorabilia. Desert Storm was a bit more forgiving with return of war trophies than the current action.
Contains listings for various forms of Middle Eastern currency, creating a reliable and extensive collecting reference.
400+ color illustrations help identify coins and currency, and better understand the geographic region, various conflicts, and diverse keepsakes. Plus, reference sections featuring conflict timelines, numeric systems, and online resource for further research.
What were we thinking?...well, that the troops would have been home two years ago, and that this war would be behind us. But, no. So it has become an unpopular book (still available from our bookstore) for an unpopular continuing event.

New Modern World Paper Money edition released !
Posted by george
The Standard Catalog of World Paper Money, Modern Issues, 1960-date is now available in a 13th Edition from Krause Publications. That has been my winter project at the office from December thru March. It is always nice to have a product back from the printer.
Continuing in the familiar large 8-1/2 x 11 size format, this edition totals 1032 pages of modern world bank note listings, 32 pages of helpful information on collector terms, advertisements and historical information and an eight-page color section.
This is the 13th edition of the Modern Book that I have been involved with. We once again rely on correspondence and submissions from over 80 worldwide experts for price updates and new issue reports. Signature varieties, replacement note and specimen listings continue to be expanded.
For those who have been concerned and following the editor’s three-year-long trial and tribulation about image quality, Cuhaj is pleased to report that this edition is the first of the paper money volumes to be produced entirely in a digital format, thus all images have been electronically re-processed, enhancing their quality over past editions which were produced by the old format of screened half-tone veloxes.
This digital endeavor will continue into future volumes of the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money series – Volume 1, Specialized Issues and Volume 2, General Issues – in addition to the online version of all the world paper money catalogs soon to be available at Numismaster.com.
What this all means is that to move the product - all three paper money products, our KP image library has had to be inspected, photos sized and given computer ID numbers, so that they will appear along with the data base test (which also had to be re-edited), and flowed into the computer image publishing program. This book went directly from computer to printing plate. A hugh advancement in book prodcution technology from what we did last year, when we spent over 200 hours of staff time transfering velox images onto the new past-up page for the book.
The book is available from the publisher direct, or major hobby distributors. Krause Publications, 700 East State St. Iola, WI 54990 USA. 1-800-258-0929, or on the web at
www.krausebooks.com
. ISBN #978-0-89689-502-7; at $50.00.
