At the Jan. 17 meeting of the Livermore Valley Coin Club, Fremont Coin Gallery dealer Vince LaCariere showed a 1901-S Barber quarter that he had recently acquired. Mr. LaCariere said that he bought the coin from a person who uses a metal detector to hunt for treasure. The coin was reportedly found “somewhere in Nevada.” The hunter did not disclose the exact location of the find.

NCC meeting includes grading presentation
Lee Orr presented a grading seminar Dec. 8 at the Kenwood Park Center in Minneapolis, Minn., when the Northwest Coin Club held its December meeting. Orr is a longtime dealer at the club’s annual show and club supporter. Continue reading
GNA to offer two ANA scholarships
The Georgia Numismatic Association is accepting applications for two scholarships for the 2012 American Numismatic Association Summer Seminar in Colorado Springs, Colo. The scholarships are available to both Young Numismatists, ages 13 to 22, and senior numismatists. The two one-week sessions are scheduled for June 23-29 and June 30-July 6. Houston show records likely
With a record 250 booths hosting approximately 400 dealers expected, the Money Show of the Southwest was set to open its bourse Thursday, Dec. 1 through Saturday, Dec. 3.
