What would we do without coins?

I had a good laugh on the way to the office this morning. It had snowed overnight, so I had to shovel before I departed for work. It is a typical winter event for me in Wisconsin

However, since the office closes down today at noon, I am quite naturally a little eager to get to work, get my tasks done and get home, so snow is not exactly a welcome event as it slows everything down a bit.

Well, I had an attitude adjustment on the way to work. A young kid dressed in a snowsuit was on his way to school. He was wearing  a backpack, yet he was crawling along on the sidewalk deliberately making impressions in the new snow.

How could I not laugh?

My obstacle was obviously fun for the kid.

It made me ask the question again, what’s it all for?

I think you know the answer.

Though we all watch the swings in the price of gold and silver, worrry about the future and attitudes toward the Mint took a hit among collectors, for me coin collecting is still fun and interesting and I wouldn’t trade what I do for anything.

The kid wasn’t exactly a visit from the ghost of Christmas present, but it did help me get into the spirit of the season.

I hope you have gotten there, too.

My next blog will be Dec. 27.
