Here’s an new idea for all of the coin marketers out there:
Why not a special slab for all coins struck on Feb. 29?
Think of the possibilities. These pieces would be relatively rare, especially if they are bullion coins.
But even clad mintage totals might be sufficiently limited to make the coins struck on this date desirable in the secondary market.
Even the Mint could offer bags and rolls of coins struck on this date to earn a little extra money to shore up its sagging profitability.
Will such a thing happen?
I don’t expect so, but then who would have thought collectors would go crazy for coins struck early in the year and labeled as such by the grading services?
Marketers are clever.
They make us desire things we never knew we wanted.
Feb. 29 coinage could be the next hot thing.
