On Feb. 16 The Perth Mint will release both the U.S.S. Enterprise and Captain James T. Kirk imaged in silver. It is 49 years since Gene Roddenberry launched the Star Trek series and it is still running hot.

The two, colorized, proof, Tuvaluan dollars are struck on 40.60 mm, 1 oz (31.135 g) .999 fine silver flans. Each has a total mintage of 6,500. Of this number 1,500 will be packaged in two coin sets and the remainder available separately.

One coin presents Captain James Tiberius Kirk, as portrayed by actor William Shatner, posed thoughtfully in his captain’s chair. The second shows the Constitution-class starship U.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701, backed by the United Federation of Planets logo surrounding a common or garden planetary scene.

The obverse of both coins shows the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
