Whitman honors Bressett

Back of the latest Red Book honors Ken Bressett.

A 10-page special section in the 2019 Red Book pays tribute to Kenneth Bressett, who has been made editor emeritus by the publisher.

Bressett is the longtime editor of the book, which is formally known as A Guide Book of United States Coins.

He joined the staff at Whitman in 1959, a dozen years after R.S. Yeoman published the first edition in 1947.

After Yeoman retired in 1970, Bressett took the editor’s chair for the 27th edition.

For the 66th edition, he was elevated to senior editor.

A new title has come with the 72nd edition now published.

“Although Ken will step down from day-to-day management of the Red Book, we know his work in numismatics will continue,” said Whitman publisher Dennis Tucker. “And of course his influence, like that of R.S. Yeoman, will be felt for as long as the book is enjoyed by hobbyists around the world.”

Tucker suggests collectors buy two copies of the Red Book this year – one for day-to-day use and one for Bressett to autograph.

Those who like the idea will find Bressett at the American Numismatic Association Summer Seminar June 16-28 in Colorado Springs, Colo., and at the ANA World’s Fair of Money Aug. 14-18 in Philadelphia.

He will also attend the Whitman Coin and Collectibles 2018 Winter Expo Oct. 25-28.
