The designs for a congressional gold medal honoring World War II Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg was unveiled May 9 by Treasury Sercretary Jacob J. Lew and King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden at the Cash Room of the Treasury.
Lew noted Wallenberg’s “remarkable heroism, in risking his own life to rescue thousands of Hungarian Jews during the Holocaust, is the reason that we are here to celebrate.”
Queen Silvia also was present.
