U.S. Mint catalog ready Sept. 28

NN1003mintcat_color.jpgSept. 28 marked the mailing date of the U.S. Mint?s annual holiday catalog and the opening of sales of some new sales options.

New ?W? mintmarked gold and silver American Eagles offered in special sets one month earlier are now being offered for sale individually and new ?W? mintmarked platinum American Eagles have gone on sale with them.

The gold uncirculated 2006-W one-ounce coin is priced at $720 each and the 2006-W silver Eagle is $19.95 each. The two prices added together total $739.95, $110.05 cheaper than the two coins featured in the 20th anniversary set that went on sale Aug. 30.

Fractional gold 2006-W uncirculated gold Eagles are also available to hobbyists. The half ounce is $375. The quarter ounce is $190 and the tenth ounce is $85. A four-coin set can be purchased for $1,350.

New collector uncirculated 2006 platinum Eagles with ?W? mintmarks are distinguished by the fact that their reverse design will be the one used on this year?s proof, which honors the legislative branch of the federal government.

The one-ounce coin, with a face value of $100, is priced at $1,390. The half ounce is $720, the quarter ounce is $390 and the tenth ounce is $180. A four-coin set is $2,585.

The holiday catalog also is filled with popular favorites, such as clad and silver proof sets. There is also a special three-coin Return to Monticello nickel set called the 2006 Westward Journey Nickel Series Coin Set, which completes the series begun in 2004. The PDS set is priced at $6.50 each.
