The uncirculated American Eagle looks set to fly back into the lives of coin collectors in 2011 if the Mint follows through on present plans.

This is the third kind of American Eagle. It is not the regular bullion coin, nor the proof, but an uncirculated piece with a “W” mintmark that will be sold by the Mint directly to collectors on its website and through its telephone order number.

However, to put this third kind of Eagle in context, here is the full schedule for Eagle issues in 2011.

First up this year to be sold directly to collectors will be the proof gold American Eagles, which will be issued April 21. The uncirculated “W” ounce will follow May 5.

For silver Eagles, the proof is scheduled to be offered “by” July 6. The uncirculated version is not absolutely definite as it has “TBA” – to be announced by the listing, but the fact this coin made it to the list at all is encouraging for people who want to get it for their collection.

That means in 2011, collectors will have three one-ounce gold Eagles to buy – the proof, the “W” uncirculated and the regular bullion coin that doesn’t have a mintmark that is already being offered by the Mint’s Authorized Purchasers. This will likely be true with the silver coins as well.

The one-ounce platinum proof Eagle will be offered May 26.

The proof one-ounce Buffalo gold will go on sale April 18.
