ANACS coin grading service moved to Englewood, Colo., from Austin, Texas, during the last week of December and reopened for business Jan. 2 under new ownership.
Anderson Press, Inc., announced Dec. 27 that it had sold ANACS, L.P., six days prior for an undisclosed price to Driving Force, LLC, owned by James Taylor.
?This sale will allow Anderson Press to focus on its publishing businesses, including numismatic publisher Whitman,? said Allison Jackson, who commented for Anderson Press Inc.
The ANACS Austin office was cleared out Dec. 26 and the swift departure prompted coin message board speculation centered on the fate of old and new employees and coins still in the firm?s hands.
A general e-mail was sent out by ANACS Dec. 28. It stated:
?Customers that had submissions at the Austin location please rest assured that they are being handled in the safest and most professional of manner as they are transported by armored service to the new office.
?Business will resume and submissions will begin to ship out Jan. 2, 2008. If there are any questions please don?t hesitate to contact Mr. Taylor at: James.Taylor@ANACS.com.?
E-mail and telephone messages left for Taylor by Numismatic News were not returned by press time.
Taylor is a former ANACS president who moved the business from Dublin, Ohio, to Austin in 2005 after it had been sold to Anderson Press by Amos Press. His professional background also includes stints with Independent Coin Grading and the American Numismatic Association.
He registered Driving Force LLC with the Colorado secretary of state?s office on Dec. 3.
ANACS was founded by the American Numismatic Association in 1972, sold to Amos Press in 1990, and then sold to Anderson in 2005.
