Swindling hopes to bring youth to Board

Jeff Swindling has announced his candidacy for a seat on the American Numismatic Association Board of Governors.

“I think it’s time the Board had a more youthful member to help guide the ANA into the future,” Swindling said. “With youth often comes fresh perspective, creativity and problem solving abilities totally different from established thought processes.”

“However, my youth should not be mistaken for inexperience,” he said.

Swindling will earn a doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Florida in May 2009 and has served the ANA in leadership capacities in the past.

He has served as a national convention volunteer and district representative since 2002. He was appointed chairperson of the Young Numismatist and Scout Committees for the 2007-2009 term. Since his appointment, ANA’s YN membership has increased more than 20 percent, and several YN programs have been created or reinvigorated, Swindling said.

“While YNs may be the future of our hobby, I also feel that the ANA’s mission of education is fundamental to our health as an organization,” Swindling said. “Many numismatists do not take full advantage of ANA membership benefits, so I wish to promote current educational programs as well as establishing new ones.”

He believes that balancing the ANA’s budget and managing its financing is an important issue facing the next Board.

“It will be vital to increase revenue streams through encouraging donations and financial support from our members and the numismatic community.”

Some of Swindling’s recent numismatic accomplishments include the 2007 ANA Glenn B. Smedley Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service, the 2008 ANA Member Booster Award and the 2008 ANA Outstanding District Representative Award.
