The first of three 2008 Whitman Baltimore Coin and Currency Conventions is set to open Feb. 28 with a Dealer?s Super Bourse.
According to David Crenshaw, the bourse chairman, the $100 bourse fee is good 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., ($75 for pre-registered dealers). Dealers who write a second check help raise money for Children?s National Medical Center. Some $250,000 has been raised over the years in this way.
The opening session of the Bowers and Merena four-session convention auction also starts Feb. 28.
Two American Numismatic Association School of Numismatics classes will highlight educational offerings. Ron Gillis will teach ?Coin Collecting 101.? James Wiles instructs ?Understanding Die Varieties.? Both are set to begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 1.
Also on Saturday, Joe Kaminski will host a question and answer session at 3 p.m. called ?Tell Me about My Coins? in the Charles Street lobby.
Young collector activities in ?Kids? Korner? run for three days, starting at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 29, through Sunday, March 2.
The show officially opens to the public at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 29. Admission is free.
