Silver Eagle sales take a pause

Orders for silver American Eagle bullion coins are faltering with just 81,000 coins sold between June 8 and June 15. It’s not a lack of supply that’s throttling sales as the Mint announced June 13 it had 1,672,500 silver Eagles available for purchase. A week prior, they had 1,415,500 coins in stock. Rather, it could be a pullback by distributors and resellers looking at increasing silver prices and a market saturated with the coins.

The Harpers Ferry America the Beautiful quarter was released June 6. The coin is the 33rd release in the 56-coin program. Collectors ordered 1,671 Philadelphia, 1,754 Denver and 2,602 San Francisco 100-coin boxes as well as 6,823 two-roll Philadelphia and Denver sets, 2,555 San Francisco rolls and 6,230 three-roll sets by June 12.

Returns are slowing for the 2016-W gold Mercury dime, which saw a net return of 28 coins June 5-12. The week before, the loss was 36.
