Scout hobby forum held

clbscouts0411.jpgThe West Suburban Coin & Collectibles Show hosted its first Boy and Girl Scouts Coin Collecting Forum on March 12 in Countryside, Ill.

A total of 95 scouts registered for the event and more than 40 parents and leaders attended the event, doubling the anticipated attendance of 42.

The class, which took place on the stage of the Park Place of Countryside Banquet Hall, had sitting room only.

American Numismatic Association governor Patti Jagger Finner, a certified merit badge counselor from Iola, Wis., taught the class, which lasted approximately two hours.

Several Scout leaders helped with registration and passed out goodie bags filled with materials from the U.S. Mint?s H.I.P. and 50 State Quarters programs, along with currency brochures and posters from the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.

A donation of 81 Red Books was made by Bill Burd of the Chicago Coin Co., bourse chairman Kevin Wasmer and an anonymous dealer. They were given to Scouts who wanted one.

Each leader also received a bag with more teaching materials, quarter boards and a two-sided Flowing Hair puzzle from Rare Coin Wholesalers of Dana Point, Calif.

The show is held on the second Sunday of each month and another Scout program is scheduled with the Illinois State Show Sept. 8-10 at the same facility.
