Saving art honored

A Congressional Gold Medal was given Oct. 22 to the Monuments Men Foundation at a ceremony held in Emancipation Hall of the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center.

Those who served in the Monuments, Fine Arts and Archives section of the Allied armies in World War II were collectively recognized for saving and repatriating almost 5 million works of art and other cultural items looted by the Nazis.

Examples of the medal in bronze are available to collectors for $39.95 for the 3-inch medal and $6.95 for the 1.5-inch medal.
