Ross vies for spot as ANA governor

Texan Dr. Ralph Ross attended the Florida United Numismatists convention to boost his candidacy for a seat on the American Numismatic Association board of governors.

The longtime hobby volunteer announced his candidacy Dec. 1 in his backyard at the Money Show of the Southwest in Houston.

Ross announced that he would put his name in the ring at the District Delegates and ANA Representatives meeting.

Ross is a 35-year member of the ANA. Ross is a past president of the Greater Houston Coin Club and has worked for many years with Young Numismatists.

A high school math teacher for a quarter century and a coin collector since the age of four, Ross was able to marry the two disciplines, mathematics and numismatics to create the world’s largest high school coin club in Sugar Land, Texas, using “coin’s in the classroom” as the driver.

The most dynamic and compact book for collector pricing and valuation on U.S coins & currency.

According to Ross, his objectives are “to advance numismatic knowledge through educational, historical and scientific means and to promote academic excellence in disciplines such as reading, writing and arithmetic.”

His campaign platform includes:

• Increasing youth ANA membership
• Coins in the classroom
• Families in numismatics
• Bringing numismatics into the mainstream of historical studies.

Ross believes his work with young people can spark an interest in coins and currency that can last a lifetime. He strives to “empower youth with knowledge so they can be the elders of tomorrow.”

He holds an ANA Medal of Merit and a Glenn Smedley Award and a Numismatic Ambassador Award.
