Proof Silver Eagle starts new year

The Mint began sales of the first collector’s coin for the new year, the 2015 proof Silver Eagle, on Jan. 2. Buyers purchased 262,377 coins in just two days of being on sale.

Also released, though only for Authorized Purchasers, are the 2015 gold American Eagle and American Buffalo bullion coins. Purchasers ordered 26,000 one ounce, 13,000 half-ounce, 24,000 quarter-ounce and 65,000 tenth-ounce gold American Eagles as well as 18,500 gold American Buffalo coins by Jan. 6.

Off sale with the new year are all the 2014 commemorative coins. The Civil Rights silver dollar saw 24,720 uncirculated and 61,992 proof coins go out the door in 2014. The Baseball Hall of Fame clad half dollar had buyers order 146,816 uncirculated and 257,173 proof coins along with 29,630 Young Collector’s sets.

The Mint has placed out of stock notices on all of the 2013 and 2014 Presidential $1 Coin and First Spouse Medal Sets, though it remains to be seen if they will return.
