Production up in November

November’s monthly circulating coin production total at the U.S. Mint at 715.96 million pieces was up 25.3 million coins from October.

Boosts in cent, nickel and Native American dollar production overcame declines in output for dimes, quarters and Presidential dollars.

Presidential dollar production tailed off to just 2.1 million pieces in Philadelphia and zero in Denver. This will become the new norm as circulating dollar production has been suspended by the Treasury secretary.

Almost 300 million Presidential dollars have been struck in 2011.

If you add the Golden (Native American) dollar total to the Presidential dollar total it almost equals this year’s output of quarters, the mintage of which has been suffering from an overhang of state quarters.

Signs of life in quarter production for the Chickasaw design might signal higher levels of quarter production in 2012.

Almost 7.8 billion coins have been struck in calendar year 2011. This already exceeds the 6.4 billion coins struck in calendar year 2010.
