Polish specialist Majewski dies

Arthur Majewski, a Michigan numismatist specializing in Polish coins and decorations, died Aug. 6 at the age of 85.

The author of Moneta Polska, a book on Polish coins and their history that was published in 1987, Majewski served on the 1976 Assay Commission after he was appointed by President Gerald R. Ford.

Prior to his retirement, he was a lawyer in southeast Michigan. Majewski lived in Grosse Point, Mich., and was a long-time active member of the Polish American Numismatic Society.

He is survived by his sister, Helen Pierzchala, and was preceded in death by wife Marianne, son Mark, sister Stephanie Wysocki and brother Walter.
His funeral was held Aug. 10 with burial in Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.
