Park Service bill in House

Gold, silver and clad commemoratives are being sought to mark the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service.

Legislation introduced in the House of Representatives by Rep. John J. Duncan Jr. of Tennessee calls for up to 100,000 gold $5 coins, 500,000 silver dollars and 750,000 clad half dollar coins.

Surcharges of $35, $10 and $5, respectively, would be added to the price of the coins.

Modern Commemorative Coins

Do you know which modern commemoratives have the best potential for profit?

It is still early in the legislative process as the legislation has only six co-sponsors.

It will have to pass the House, the Senate and be signed by President Obama to become law.

Because of the upcoming Presidential election season, the legislative calendar’s window for action is fairly short for the remainder of this year.

If it does not pass, it will have to be reintroduced next year.
