Palmer joins ANA board election

Candidacy for the American Numismatic Association board of governors has been announced by Thomas A. Palmer, the general chairman of the 2003 World’s Fair of Money in Baltimore, and a longtime hobby volunteer in the Maryland and Florida areas.

“I’m running for … several reasons.  First, I want to help lead our organization through its present difficulties. Having recently retired from a job as budget and financial manager in a federal agency and holding an M.B.A. degree, I can offer ANA valuable experience in financial management.

“Second, I want to provide both numismatic professionals and hobbyists with someone who understands their points of view. I was bourse chairman for the Maryland State Numismatic Association for five years and learned to know the dealer community through putting on that show.

“I’ve been a numismatist for over 40 years and an active member of many clubs, so I understand the hobbyist’s views,” he explained.

Palmer’s bottom line, he said, is “I simply want to be a bigger part of ANA’s numismatic education and outreach.”

Palmer is past president of Maryland State Numismatic Association, Baltimore Coin Club, Central Florida Coin Club, and the Ancient Numismatic Society of Washington.

He served on the board of directors of FUN for 16 years and was FUN public registration chairman for six years.

He is a writer, speaker and award winning exhibitor and ANA certified exhibit judge.
