Oberthur Fiduciaire to print Denmark’s notes

Danmarks Nationalbank has announced that French company Oberthur Fiduciaire SAS has been chosen to supply Danish bank notes from 2018. A contract has been signed for a four-year agreement, with an option to extend it for an additional two years.

In 2014, Danmarks Nationalbank decided to outsource production of both its notes and coinage. This was a direct result of the change in payment patterns of recent years that has seen a marked fall in demand for coins and bank notes.

In commenting on the bank’s decision, the governor, Hugo Frey Jensen, stated, “During the tender process we considered the prices, quality, security and corporate social responsibility of potential suppliers. We are convinced that Oberthur Fiduciaire SAS is able to meet our expectations.”

Oberthur Fiduciaire SAS produces around 5 billion bank notes a year for some 70 different countries. The first Danish bank notes printed by the company are expected to be placed in circulation in 2020.
