Noe ordered to repay $13.7 million

Although he is now serving more than 20 years in prison, the Thomas Noe saga continues on.

A Lucas County judge in Toledo, Ohio, ruled Nov. 27 that Noe must repay $13.7 million to the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation, with the judge noting that the amount was undisputed by Noe?s attorneys. That is in addition to the nearly $3 million Noe was ordered to reimburse the state for legal costs at his Nov. 20 sentencing.

Also on Nov. 27, Timothy LaPointe, 59, who was vice president of Noe?s Vintage Coins and Collectibles business, and was one of the main witnesses against Noe, pled guilty to three counts of tampering with records. He faces up to 15 years in prison Jan. 8.

La Pointe testified during Noe?s trial that he colluded with Noe to alter records to deceive accountants about the true standing of the $50 million rare-coin fund Noe administered.
