New gold ducats

This year marks the 200th anniversary of the first minting of the Dutch gold ducat in its current design. To commemorate the occasion, Koninklijke Nederlandse Munt [Royal Dutch Mint] has struck bicentennial proof editions of both the single ducat and double ducat.

The 21.00 mm, 3.494 g, .983 fine gold single ducat is notable. Its obverse design is that of the original 1817 ducat (KM-50.1) with the addition of the 2017 date. The 26.00 mm, 6.988 g, .983 fine gold double ducat has the conventional modern design (KM-211).

Both coins have corded edges. Mintages are determined by the number of orders received. As of June 1, these mintages were: single ducat, 2,501, and double ducat, 836.
