NASC to host counterfeit seminar

The Numismatic Association of South Carolina will host a two-day seminar titled, “Introduction to Counterfeit Detection of United States Coinage.” It is being held in conjunction with the American Numismatic Association during the Long Beach Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Exposition Sept. 9-10 at the Long Beach Convention Center.

to detect counterfeit and altered coins commonly seen in the marketplace today. All types and denominations of U.S. coins will be discussed with genuine and counterfeit specimens present for hands-on examination. The course will touch on modern Chinese counterfeits as well. Additionally, there will be opportunities for group discussion as well as one-on-one instruction.

Instructor Mary Sauvain is a professional numismatist, American Numismatic Association Summer Seminar grading and counterfeit detection instructor and former ANA Certification Service authenticator.

Tuition is $198 for ANA or NASC members, or $298 for non-members. Participants can join either organization prior to the class to receive the $100 discount.

The seminar is limited to 30 students. Registration will continue until Sept. 6, or until it fills up. The price includes free admission to the Long Beach Expo, but it does not include convention center parking, which is $10 per day.
