The 2012 four-coin Presidential dollar proof set will be offered to collectors starting April 24 by the U.S. Mint. Price of the set is $18.95.
Because Presidential dollars will no longer be struck for circulation and released through the banking system, the Mint will be expanding the number of sales options collectors will have to purchase them in 2012.
Of the four Presidential dollar coins to be dated 2012, two will honor President Grover Cleveland, who is the only President to serve nonconsecutive terms. The coins will feature two different portraits of him as the 22nd and 24th President.
Starting out the Presidential line-up is the dollar for Chester A., Arthur. Uncirculated rolls were scheduled to become available April 5 for $32.95 each. There are 25 coins in a roll. The Chester Arthur Coin Cover was slated to be available on April 9 for $19.95.
Following at intervals will be coins for Cleveland, May 25, and then Benjamin Harrison and Cleveland again on dates to be announced later.
On May 1, the Presidential $1 Coin Uncirculated SetTM will go on sale for $16.95. This includes coins of each of the four designs from both the Philadelphia and Denver Mints.
For collectors who only are seeking type examples of the Presidential designs, a four-coin uncirculated set will be sold for $9.95 some time later this year.
Bag and box quantities of Presidential dollars also will be offered for each Presidential design later in the year.
A 100-coin bag will be priced at $111.95, while a 250-coin box will be $275.95 and a 500-coin box will be $550.95.
Another way collectors will be able to obtain Presidential dollars include the regular 14-coin United States Mint Proof Set®, which will go on sale May 7 for $31.95.
The standard United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set® (with all denominations cents through dollars) is slated to be released May 21 for $27.95.
